Haitian-Americans and immigrant groups rallied in Flatbush, Brooklyn, Tuesday afternoon to denounce false comments about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio.

This comes after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump amplified false claims during the presidential debate last week that Haitian immigrants in Ohio were abducting and eating pets despite there being no evidence to back up the claims.

Trump’s allies, including his running mate JD Vance, have since repeated the claims.

Ohio state police are now helping protect schools in Springfield after there have been at least 33 bomb separate threats made in recent days to multiple schools, as well as Springfield City Hall and state motor vehicle offices.

State Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn joined NY1’s political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss this and more.

She represents all or parts of Flatbush, Ditmas Park and East Midwood in Brooklyn, and is also the chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party.
