State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris was among several New York officials Friday calling for Mayor Eric Adams’ removal from office following the wave of resignations from the Justice Department over a directive to drop the corruption charges against Adams.
“Eric Adams is clearly compromised and can no longer be considered the legitimate leader of our city. He must step down or be removed,” Gianaris said in part on X.
The last thing the people of New York want is for our city to turn into an annex of the Trump administration, yet that's exactly what is happening. Eric Adams is clearly compromised and can no longer be considered the legitimate leader of our city. He must step down or be removed

Gianaris, who represents parts of western Queens, joined political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to elaborate on the situation.
“This is an unprecedented situation, we are in uncharted waters. I don’t know if — in the history of the nation — there’s ever been a situation where the Department of Justice told someone ‘we will hold these charges in advance and consider reinstating them if we don’t like what you’ve done from a policy perspective.'”
Gianaris said he doesn’t have “any faith or trust that [Adams] is operating independently.”
