It was once taboo to speak about but now, more women are talking about menopause, including celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore.
It happens after a woman has gone a year without getting a period. The time leading up to that is called peri-menopause.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the average age American women will enter menopause is 51-years-old.
Dr. Pascale Josama, an OBGYN generalist at Maimonides Medical Center, joined “News All Day” Monday to talk about the symptoms and treatment for menopause.
Dr. Josama says that symptoms include hot flashes, fatigue, anxiety, vaginal dryness or irritation, painful sex, decreased libido, brain fog, mood changes, and more.
Counteracting some of these symptoms could include hormone replacement therapy.
It is recommended to consult a doctor to make sure this is the right path for you or if there is a better option for your specific needs.
