The overdose epidemic is a national crisis, and for thousands of New Yorkers, it is all too personal.

More than 2,600 people died of drug overdoses in the city in 2021, an increase of 78% since 2019 and 27% since 2020.

To raise awareness about the prevalence of overdose deaths, President Joe Biden marked this week as Overdose Awareness Week to promote treatment, prevent deaths and celebrate recovery.

Dr. Ashwin Vasan, the commisioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, joined Anthony Pascale Tuesday on "News All Day" to talk more about overdoses.
