Bronny James, 18, the son of basketball star LeBron James, and a rising star himself, suffered from cardiac arrest during a basketball workout last week.

And while he’s now back home and appears to be doing well, we wanted to speak with an expert to find out how this happens to someone so young, and what you can do to protect the young people in your life.

Doctor Paul Saunders, associate chief of cardiac surgery at Maimonides Medical Center and joined “News All Day” on Wellness Monday to discuss this.

Saunders says that immediate treatment is most important. If someone has a cardiac event, administer CPR, call 911, and use an automated external defibrillator.

The doctor also says that if there’s a family history of cardiac issues, see a cardiologist, get screened for any potential problems, ensure there’s access to those with CPR training, and ensure automated external defibrillators are available wherever a sport is being played.
