When we celebrate a big occasion at NY1, whether it be a birthday or a work anniversary, we typically do so with cake. NY1 turns to Monica Mena, owner of Hanoli Cakes in Queens.
Mena joins “News Al Day” on Women Wednesday to talk about her growing small business which started at her house.
Mena had a dream while in a month-long coma she had a bakery. When she woke up, she decided to quit her job and enroll in a cake decorating class.
Her first customers were her family, and it remains a family business. The name, Hanoli, comes from her daughter’s names, Hannah and Olivia.
Mena says that baking is like her playground, and she loves what she does.
