NEW YORK — The city’s congressional Democrats urged President Joe Biden on Friday to intervene to help relieve the crisis on Rikers Island, as a federal monitor said the massive jails complex needs outside help to get the crisis under control.
Meanwhile, after facing mounting pressure from elected leaders and advocates, Mayor de Blasio finally announced that he'll visit the island next week.
Manhattan Councilman Keith Powers, the chair of the council’s Committee on Criminal Justice, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” on Friday evening to talk about his visit to Rikers and why he thinks it should get outside help.
