In a press conference Tuesday, the District Attorneys of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens banded together to demand changes to what’s called the state’s discovery law.

They say the current law that deals with “discovery” — the process of sharing evidence in criminal cases — is too restrictive, which is getting some cases dropped on technicalities.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and prosecutors argued judges should have more discretion in deciding what evidence must be presented. But defense lawyers and law professors are urging the legislature to reject these proposed changes, saying it could unfairly tip the scales of justice against the defendants.

Martin LaFalce, an assistant professor of clinical law at St. John’s University, signed onto a letter calling on the legislature to not vote for these changes.

He joined “Inside City Hall” Tuesday night to discuss the ideas.
