Frank Carone, former chief of staff to Mayor Eric Adams, says the mayor’s record “speaks for itself.”
“I believe in him as a person. I believe in the administration. The record, when his story is finally told, speaks for itself,” the longtime ally and confidante of the mayor told NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday.
The mayor faces an uphill reelection battle. Adams has said his campaign is underway, despite lackluster fundraising numbers and low poll numbers, and has lost key allies. He has also left the door open to potentially run as an independent candidate.
In addition, at the end of last year, Adams became the first ever mayor to face federal charges while in office. In February, Adams' legal team and the Department of Justice attempted to get his federal corruption case dismissed. A federal judge canceled his trial, but did not dismiss the charges the mayor faces.
In response to a question on whether the mayor would run on an independent line, Carone said Adams is “anxious to tell his story and announce his own plans,”
“As soon as he puts his matter behind him, he’s going to freely discuss what his intentions are and he’s going to speak of his record, his passion, and what he’s doing for everyday New Yorkers and it's an incredible story,” he added, alluding to the charges against the mayor.
