1. Security preparations underway for New Year's Eve in Times Square
With around 1 million people expected to gather in Times Square Tuesday night, security preparations are well underway for the city's iconic New Year’s Eve celebration.
At a news briefing in Times Square this morning, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Eric Adams said there were no “specific credible threats” to this year’s festivities or to the city in general, but noted that security precautions will be in place to ensure the safety of spectators.

3. Appeals court upholds $5 million award in sexual abuse verdict against Trump
A federal appeals court today upheld a jury's finding in a civil case that Donald Trump sexually abused a columnist in an upscale department store dressing room in the mid-1990s.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a written opinion upholding the $5 million award that the Manhattan jury granted to E. Jean Carroll for defamation and sexual abuse.
4. Linda Lavin, Tony-winning Broadway actor who starred in the sitcom 'Alice,' dies at 87
Linda Lavin, a Tony Award-winning stage actor who became a working class icon as a paper-hat wearing waitress on the TV sitcom “Alice,” has died. She was 87.
Lavin died in Los Angeles on Sunday of complications from recently discovered lung cancer, her representative, Bill Veloric, told The Associated Press in an email.
5. Hochul directs DOCCS to make changes following inmate's death at Marcy Correctional
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul visited the Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County on Monday, and directed immediate changes to protect staff and inmates following the death of inmate Robert Brooks in an incident with corrections officers earlier this month.
Body camera footage released last week by the New York attorney general’s office shows correctional officers hitting Brooks while he was restrained at the prison on Dec. 9. He died the next day at a hospital in Utica.
6. Bronx readies for congestion pricing as green project takes shape
As the Bronx looks ahead to 2025, environmental activists are focused on a major green initiative to restore Tibbets Brook while also bracing for the expected impact of congestion pricing.
The project, aimed at daylighting sections of Tibbets Brook, has been gaining attention well beyond the city.
NY1 has also looked ahead to 2025 with a focus on the rest of the five boroughs: Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
