Philip Hensley is a meteorologist forecasting for the Spectrum News 1 Kentucky weather team.

Philip is no stranger to the region, having grown up in Jasper, Indiana, in southwest Indiana. Philip received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Evansville, Indiana and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Master of Science in Applied Meteorology from Mississippi State University. While attending graduate school, Philip had the opportunity to storm chase throughout the Great Plains, chasing severe weather from Texas to North Dakota.

Philip has dedicated his professional life to public service, as he is an active 20-year veteran State Trooper with the Indiana State Police. Philip was recently awarded the 2023 Trooper of the District award for the Sellersburg Post for his service and performance in his duties throughout 2023. Philip’s dedication to public service and passion for weather have crossed paths several times in his career. He has responded to the devastating tornado events in Newburgh, Indiana in 2005, Henryville, Indiana in 2012, and numerous other severe and winter weather incidents.  

In his free time, Philip focuses on physical fitness and athletics, playing basketball, tennis, boxing, as well as running for distance running and weightlifting. He enjoys cooking, playing video games, collecting LEGO, and most importantly, spending time with his wife and their three children.
