A new artistic work examining the Jan. 6 insurrection is set to debut at Lincoln Center.

“Carnival of the Animals,” a reimagining of the classic composition, blends music, poetry, and dance to explore societal values and democracy in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The piece is written by artist and Kennedy Center Vice President Marc Bamuthi Joseph and is performed in collaboration with Wendy Whelan, associate artistic director of the New York City Ballet.

The two-night performance opens Friday at Alice Tully Hall. Joseph and Whelan joined “Mornings On 1” Wednesday to preview the show.
