The city’s “Summer Streets” program will return to all five boroughs with extended hours, Mayor Eric Adams and Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said Tuesday.

The initiative, which clears miles of city streets of cars for residents to play, walk and bike, will kick off at 7 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. on five Saturdays in July and August, the two officials said in a news release.

Last year, participating streets were closed to traffic for six hours, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year will mark the first time “Summer Streets” hours have been extended since the program launched in 2008, the release said.

The program will include nearly 20 miles of streets this year, the release noted.

“New York City is back — and with our Summer of Possibility — there has never been a better time to enjoy the five boroughs,” Adams said in a statement. “Whether you want to find a new job, enjoy a summer concert, enjoy our largest-ever Summer Streets program, or take part in so much more our city has to offer, our administration is working every day to ensure our city is working to give you the summer you want and deserve. This city is full of possibilities!”
