It’s been a year since the deaths of Lt. Michael Hoosock and Officer Michael Jensen in Salina. They were killed during a home investigation.

The tragedy struck the local law enforcement community deeply, marking a somber chapter in Central New York history.

Officer Jensen, who had joined the Syracuse Police Department a little more than two years prior to the incident, was early in his career.

Lieutenant Hoosock was a seasoned officer, having served with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office since 2007.

Their deaths are among the 148 line-of-duty deaths reported across the United States in 2024, according to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund.

Next month, the names of both fallen officers will be permanently etched into the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The national tribute will follow a local memorial ceremony at Forman Park in Syracuse, scheduled to occur about a week earlier. The events are expected to draw fellow officers, family members and community members.
