A snowy night is expected for the city on Saturday, with conditions set to make for slippery and slow travel.

The forecast indicates that the first flakes could start falling around 6 p.m., with up to 4 inches of heavy, wet snow possible to accumulate in total, along with some ice.

The accumulation may be less in areas closer to the coast, with lower amounts also possible to due to rain, ice and sleet mixed in with the snow.

The snowfall, which isn’t expected to affect roads until around 8 p.m., will be at its worst from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., the forecast indicates. Most of the snowfall will end around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Sunday could see a few passing snow showers between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., but no additional accumulation is expected, according to the forecast.

New York City Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory for the five boroughs from Saturday evening through Sunday, warning New Yorkers that streets could be slushy and slippery.

The agency is advising anyone venturing outdoors to take public transit, if possible. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should look out for icy conditions on streets and sidewalks.

Alternate side parking rules will be suspended on Saturday. The city’s Department of Sanitation said more than 700 salt spreaders will be ready to traverse the five boroughs treating streets.

“Our city agencies are ready to answer the call and keep New Yorkers safe as we expect freezing temperatures and snowfall this weekend,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement.

“We’re expecting snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, and thanks to our men and women at the Department of Transportation, Department of Sanitation, and Emergency Management, we’re prepared for what comes our way,” he added.

The mayor recommended New Yorkers sign up for Notify NYC to get weather alerts and updates.
