Monday marks Veterans Day in the United States, a federal holiday honoring military veterans throughout the armed services.

In New York City on Nov. 11, all public schools and city and state government services, including the post office and DMV offices, will be closed.

Most banks will be closed for the federal holiday; however, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will remain open.

New York Public Library branches will also be closed.

The MTA will operate on a regular weekday schedule for the holiday.

There is also no trash, recycling or compost collection. If Monday is your usual collection day, material should be placed at the curb Monday evening for collection Tuesday.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended for Veterans Day in New York City. All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect, according to the city's Department of Transportation.

The New York Waterway ferry services will operate on a regular schedule as well, with military veterans riding for free.

Unrelated to Veterans Day, the NYC Ferry said service to the DUMBO Landing will be temporarily suspended for scheduled maintenance on Nov. 11.

To honor the armed services, this year's New York City Veterans Day Parade will step off Monday at 12:30 p.m., marching up Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, between 25th and 45th streets. The parade is expected to last until 3:30 p.m.

The following streets will be closed Monday at the discretion of the NYPD, the city's Department of Transportation said:

  • Broadway between West 23rd Street and West 29th Street
  • Broadway between Fifth Avenue and East 23rd Street
  • 5th Avenue between West 23rd Street and West 26th Street
  • West 24th Street between Fifth Avenue and Seventh Avenue
