Nearly 150 locations throughout the five boroughs will go car-free for Halloween this year, enabling trick-or-treaters and their families to more safely stroll up and down neighborhood streets in search of candy and scares.

New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez made the announcement Friday, marking the third consecutive year the city has given the green light to the “Trick-or-Streets” initiative.

“This is the highest number [of locations] that we’ve done since we’ve started,” Rodriguez said during a press conference in Harlem. “Our streets are public spaces, they are not only for car owners.”

The following streets, plazas and corridors will host Halloween-themed activities and performances, according to the DOT:

Activities at the Trick-or-Streets locations will include festive programming, performances, arts and crafts, fitness classes and giveaways, DOT officials said in a press release.

The open streets program is set to extend beyond just Halloween, too: Events are also planned into November to celebrate the Mexican holiday of Día De Los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead,” the DOT said.
