Police officers responding to a 911 call around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday found Lawrence inside an apartment in Harlem with at least one stab wound to her neck, the NYPD said.

A witness told police Crumbley took Lawrence’s phone from her after she received a call inside the apartment, according to a complaint filed with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Police said the two were in a relationship, and Crumbley believed Lawrence was cheating on him.

When Lawrence tried to grab the phone from Crumbley, he told her he would stab her if she didn’t “get back,” the complaint said. A struggle ensued, and Crumbley stabbed Lawrence with a knife before leaving the apartment with her phone, prosecutors said.

Lawrence was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The city’s Medical Examiner determined that she died of stab wounds to her neck and torso, according to the complaint.

Crumbley turned himself into police a day after the attack, the NYPD said. He is currently being held at the Eric M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island, city Department of Correction records show.

Prosecutors requested that Crumbley be held without bail, saying the teen had just been arrested in October for allegedly firing several shots at another person, according to the DA’s office.

Crumbley is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday, the DA’s office said. His attorney didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
