A man was arrested after he allegedly broke into Gracie Mansion and stole a Christmas ornament on New Year’s Day, prosecutors said.
Surveillance footage showed Michael Aromando, 20, climbing over a fence outside the mayor’s official residence on the Upper East Side just before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a complaint filed with the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

An NYPD officer assigned to patrol the mansion spotted Aromando walking around inside, the DA’s office said.
After police took Aromando into custody, he played them a cellphone video that showed him removing a Christmas ornament from a drawer inside the mansion, according to the complaint.
Prosecutors said the ornament and several unspecified items were found on Aromando.
The Upper East Side resident has been charged with one count of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree burglary, police and the DA’s office said.
A spokesperson for the Legal Aid Society, which is representing Aromando, declined to comment on the case.
