Five people were shot near the Coney Island boardwalk after an individual fired a gun into a crowd early Sunday morning, police said.
The NYPD says that at around midnight, a large pop-up party with music began on the beach and boardwalk area near the amphitheater. At around 2 a.m., a shooter opened fire, according to police.
Officials are unsure who the intended targets were or how many shots were fired — however, the number of shell casings recovered from the scene was “in the double digits.”
According to police, as of Sunday morning, a 31-year-old man was in critical but stable condition after getting shot in the back. A 36-year-old man was in stable condition after being shot in the chin. Two women, ages 26 and 27, were also in stable condition after both were shot in the leg. A 19-year-old man who was shot in the leg was in stable condition, as well.
No arrests have been made as of 10 a.m. Sunday, and the investigation is ongoing.
