It was an emotional moment when a special tribute was unveiled in a Crotona Park CleanRite parking lot for the victims of the Twin Parks apartment fire that happened back in Jan.

“I lost all of eight people there,” said Adjaratou Tapani Demba.

She lived on the 19th floor of the North West building. It’s a day that has stuck with her no matter how hard she tries to move forward.

“I’m not ok because of anytime, anywhere you are you think about them – think about yourself and think about them,” said Dempa.

Laundry Capital Co. which owns about 45 laundromats throughout the boroughs got permission from family members and commissioned this mural. It was painted by local artist group Tats Cru.

“We have the names of the family and there’s like a sunset. On the far left there’s a Bronx scenery, then we have flags from Gambia and Mali,” explained Wilfredo “Bio” Feliciano, an artist with Tats Cru.

Most of the victims that died hailed from those countries. Laundry Capital said it was moved after seeing the community come together and support victims after the tragedy.

“We really wanted to do something special and you know give people in the Bronx a permanent place they can remember their loved ones,” said Felicia Galitsky, chief of staff at Laundry Capital Co./CleanRite.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson said through the Mayor’s fund they have been able to raise over four million dollars to help the hundreds of the displaced families impacted by the fire.

“Many of the families have already relocated to other new apartments but we still have a number of families that remain in area hotels that are waiting for vouchers and new apartments,” said Gibson.

As for Demba she said she’s eternally grateful for kind gestures like this mural and for the support families have received.

“When we see someone stand up for us, we very appreciate that too so we just want to thank everyone and be there for us,” Dembra said.
