The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is eliminating its airport and seaport fees for shipments of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
The Port Authority board said in a resolution Thursday that they will work to collect items like food, medicine, blankets and clothes that will be shipped to Ukraine.
Additionally, the resolution said Port Authority technical specialists will start planning ways the agency can help with the eventual reconstruction of Ukraine's transportation infrastructure, something the agency said its experts did in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017.
"As Ukrainian President [Volodymyr] Zelensky said at a joint session of the United States Congress earlier this week: 'I call on you to do more' — and [we have] heeded that call," the Board said in the resolution.
The Port Authority oversees the largest port on the East Coast and five airports across New York and New Jersey.
