A suspect who allegedly shot and killed a cab driver in New Rochelle last week was taken into custody after a shootout in Brooklyn on Sunday, authorities said.
Taxi driver Andres Valenzuela, 62, was parking his cab in the lot adjacent to Juliano's Caterers on Main Street in New Rochelle around 2:50 a.m. on Thursday when he was fatally shot, the New Rochelle Police Department said in a press release.
Police officers from the department tracked the suspect in Valenzuela’s shooting to the vicinity of Myrtle Avenue and Fleet Walk in Downtown Brooklyn Sunday morning, New Rochelle police and the NYPD said.
The suspect was taken into custody after exchanging gunfire with officers at the scene, police said. No one was injured during the shootout, according to police.
Police didn't immediately release any additional information about the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
