NEW YORK - Citi Bike is temporarily removing pedal-assist bikes from its fleet after some complaints over the bikes' brakes.
The company says some riders claim the braking force on the front wheel was stronger than expected, and a few riders were apparently thrown over the handlebars.
The bikes can reach speeds up to 20 miles per hour.
Citi Bike says it's working on a new pedal-assist bike that should be released soon.
The first pedal-assist bikes were launched last summer, and Citi Bike says hundreds of thousands of rides were taken.
