Championing local artists and creating a cultural arts opportunity for Inwood and Northern Manhattan — that was the goal of the Inwood Film festival when it was founded in 2016.

Festival founder, Aaron Simms, as well as Carlos Deschamps, one of the filmmakers and grantees, joined “News All Day” to talk about the festival.

Simms says the festival is a chance to create a platform for the community to come together through film in northern Manhattan, especially because there are no movie theaters in the area.

Deschamps showed his film, “Night of Their Breakup,” at the festival. The film was funded by a grant through Inwood Art Works.

To participate in the festival, you have to either live in the area or make the film there.
