1. New York comptroller candidates clash in Spectrum News 1/NY1 debate
Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and his opponent, Paul Rodriguez, squared off in an exclusive Spectrum News 1 and NY1 debate on Wednesday, clashing over managing the state's pension fund and oversight of government spending.
DiNapoli pointed to his 15 years of experience overseeing the retirement fund for public employees. But Rodriguez says a different approach is needed, criticizing DiNapoli for using the pension fund as leverage to win policy changes at companies.

2. NY1 rides with city Sheriff's Office as they do tobacco inspections
The New York City Sheriff's Office says it seized marijuana and bags filled with illegal tobacco products like flavored vapes and untaxed cigarettes from a smoke shop on Staten Island.
The city sheriff says he is responding to neighborhood complaints combined with routine tobacco inspections.
NY1 got an exclusive ride with the office as it went to multiple locations throughout the borough.
3. New short-term relief center opens for migrants on Randall's Island
A new 85,000-square-foot facility located next to the Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island opened for male migrants Wednesday.
Over 20,000 migrants have gone through the city shelter system. On Wednesday morning, two more buses of migrants arrived at the Port Authority terminal.
