Airbnb could be making something of a comeback here in New York City if a new City Council bill is passed.
The bill has drawn opposition from tenant advocacy groups and others who have a formed new coalition called “Tenants Not Tourists.”
The legislation would allow one and two family homeowners to provide short-term rentals on Airbnb or other platforms, but the coalition says that would take rental units off the market and drive up housing costs as a result.
The bill, Intro 1107, was introduced last month by Brooklyn Councilmember Farrah Louis and also has the support of Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
Two members of the “Tenants Not Tourists” coalition joined NY1 political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss their opposition to the bill and more.
