Just this week Congress passed a disaster relief bill that will bring an additional $900 million to Puerto Rico. But the $91 million promised by the U.S. government for recovery is a long way off. Our guests talk about why they believe aid has been so slow in coming to Puerto Rico, still suffering from the destruction of Maria, and how New York’s Puerto Rican community has picked up the slack. They also talk about the discrimination faced by Puerto Ricans in New York since “The Great Migration” of the 50s, the fact that so many Americans believe they are immigrants, when they are actually U.S. citizens. But that discrimination has made Nuyoricans resilient, hard workers and business owners. Finally, they talk about their many contributions to the life and culture of the city, and how much more there is to be done.
A Slow, Slow Recovery
