1. House ethics chair files expulsion measure against Santos after damning report

Mississippi Rep. Michael Guest, the Chairman of the House Ethics Committee, filed a motion today to expel Rep. George Santos from Congress, one day after his panel released a scathing report which found “substantial evidence” of wrongdoing by the embattled New York Republican.

The House could consider the motion as soon as Tuesday, Nov. 28, when Congress returns from Thanksgiving recess.

2. DA drops gun charge against Brooklyn councilwoman

Brooklyn City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov will be cleared of a criminal charge she faced for bringing a gun to a rally last month, as the NYPD determined the weapon was “inoperable,” prosecutors said today.

In a statement provided to NY1, a spokesperson for Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’ office said the gun Vernikov surrendered to police after the Oct. 12 rally was “unloaded and missing the recoil spring assembly, rendering it inoperable, according to the NYPD’s lab report.”

3. No 7 and N service between Queens and Manhattan this weekend, MTA says

There will be no 7 and N train service between Queens and Manhattan this weekend, the MTA says. 7 trains will not run between 74th St-Broadway and 34 St-Hudson Yards and N trains will not run between 39 Av-Dutch Kills and 57 St-7 Av starting at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, the agency said in a news release.

Full service will resume on Monday, Nov. 20 at 4 a.m. The MTA said the service changes will also take effect on several weekends early next year.

4. Hochul signs legislation setting language standards for statewide ballot proposals

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation today to assist New Yorkers in understanding proposed constitutional amendments and other questions that are put on voters’ ballots in New York state.

The legislation states that any proposed amendments or other ballot measures must be explained using language that is “plain and clear," allowing voters to fully grasp the practical impact of adopting or rejecting the measure being proposed to them.

5. 'Utterly without merit': Judge rejects Trump's motion for mistrial in N.Y. civil fraud case

A New York judge today denied former President Donald Trump's request for a mistrial in the civil business fraud case against him, calling the arguments for such a motion "utterly without merit."

In a filing earlier this week, Trump's attorneys argued that the judge overseeing the trial, New York State Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron, is biased against the former president.

6. New ice skating rink opens in Brooklyn Bridge Park

New Yorkers looking to lace up their skates have reason to rejoice: A new ice skating rink in Brooklyn has opened to the public.

Located at the Emily Warren Roebling Plaza in Brooklyn Bridge Park, the new ice skating rink will remain open through March 1, 2024.

7. Former first lady Rosalynn Carter enters home hospice care

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former President Jimmy Carter, has entered hospice care at home, their family announced in a statement today.

In a statement released by the Carter Center on behalf of their grandson Jason Carter, the former first lady and the former president are “spending time with each other and their family.”

8. Malliotakis calls for Santos' expulsion after damning House Ethics report

Staten Island Rep. Nicole Malliotakis today called for the expulsion of fellow Republican Rep. George Santos, a day after the House Ethics Committee released a report that found “substantial evidence” of misconduct by the embattled congressman.

Appearing on "Mornings On 1," Malliotakis expressed concern over the findings, saying the report showed “really egregious uses of campaign donors’ money.”

9. Live Updates: Israeli troops exchange fire with militants in the West Bank

Israeli troops and Palestinian militants exchanged fire in the town of Jenin in the occupied West Bank during an army raid and at least three Palestinians were killed, the Palestinian health ministry said today.

Jenin has long been a flashpoint, and the military has carried out near-nightly operations there since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza six weeks ago.
