Businesses and New Yorkers who are struggling to cope with the new normal during the coronavirus pandemic are figuring out ways they can help others as through small, and big, acts of kindness. Here are a few examples to brighten your day, and perhaps also inspire you to do the same.
Butterfield Market on the Upper East Side has been around for more than 100 years and as it rides out this storm, it is offering same day delivery and is feeding a lot of hospital workers with its Feed Our Heroes Campaign.
"Today, an anonymous donor offered to match donations we receive weekly for the next four weeks," said Owner Joelle Obsatz. As of this week, they have raised around $140,000 and sent more than 9,000 meals to local hospitals and medical centers. You can check them out on Instagram or Facebook.
Our political producer Maggie found this on Instagram at Liz Ryan Designs. Liz is a freelance illustrator in Brooklyn who is drawing popular businesses in the area and raffling off her work to someone who donates to the business. She says it’s way to help small businesses that mean so much to the neighborhood. Her drawings have raised about $1,300 and driven more than $600 in sales. She's interested in expanding this to other parts of the city.
And how about this: New York Lifestyles Magazine is offering the city's essential businesses free advertising in its May issue. The publisher is offering free ads so those busineses can let people know they're open. They say they will try and fit as many ads that are submitted.
