STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A New York City police detective who was shot in the leg on Staten Island last month is back home after being released from the hospital on Monday.

Dominick Libretti was shot while conducting a drug raid back on January 20.

Police say Libretti and other officers breached the front door and announced who they were, then made their way upstairs before shots were fired.

The gunman has been identified as Nelson Pizarro.

He was shot in the leg when police returned fire.

Investigators say his roommate, Anthony Marshal, who was the focus of the search warrant.

Both were taken into custody and have prior gun and drug arrests.
