STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City Ferry is launching a new route from Staten Island on Monday.

Passengers will be able to travel from St. George on Staten Island to 38th Street on the west side of Manhattan, with a stop at Battery Park City along the way.

A one-way ride costs $2.75, the same as a subway fare.

The service is not meant to replace the Staten Island Ferry, which brings passengers to Lower Manhattan for free.

But it could be an option for Staten Island commuters heading to work on the west side.

Rather than taking the subway when you get to Manhattan, the NYC Ferry might get you closer to your destination in one trip.

It could also be an alternative to the express buses that run from Staten Island into Manhattan.
