Earlier this month, Bonola pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with 51-year-old Orsolya Gaal’s April 16 death.
Prosecutors said Bonola, who worked as a handyman for Gaal’s family, stabbed the Forest Hills resident more than 50 times and slashed her throat after the two got into an argument in her basement.
Bonola and Gaal had been in an “off and on” relationship prior to the attack, police said when he was arrested on April 20.
After Bonola stabbed Gaal, he stashed her body in a duffel bag belonging to one of her sons and wheeled it to Forest Park, where a passerby discovered it, prosecutors said. According to prosecutors, Bonola was seen on surveillance video wheeling a duffel bag at around 4:15 a.m. on the day of the attack.
Bonola was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision, the DA’s office said.
