The FDNY will posthumously promote an EMS lieutenant who was fatally stabbed outside of her station in Queens last week. 

EMS Lieutenant Alison Russo will be promoted to captain at her funeral on Wednesday, Oct. 5, the FDNY said Tuesday. 

Russo“was everything we look for in a leader in our department,” Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said in a statement.

“A dedicated and accomplished veteran of 25 years, she responded to thousands of emergencies, mentored many new EMTs and paramedics, cared deeply for the communities she served, and set an incredible example for others at Station 49 and at every station she called home throughout her outstanding career,” Kavanagh wrote. 

“This posthumous promotion is a sign of our deep respect and admiration for all the courageous and selfless work she did throughout her career,” the acting commissioner added. “We will never forget her.” 

Russo was on duty at the corner of 41st Street and 20th Avenue in Astoria on Sept. 29 when 34-year-old Peter Peter Zisopoulos allegedly randomly stabbed her several times, authorities said. 

Peter Zisopoulos has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the EMS lieutenant’s death, prosecutors said.

One wake was held for Russo on Monday, and a second wake is set to take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the FDNY said. 

Her funeral will be held at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts in Brookville at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
