QUEENS, N.Y. - The city Health Department says it is investigating a bacteria outbreak at Flushing Meadows Corona Park after some children became sick.
The city's Parks Department says it has cleaned and disinfected splash pads and fountains at playgrounds in the park after a shigellosis outbreak.
One mother tells NY1 all four of her children tested positive for the bacteria after playing in the park earlier this month and were admitted to the hospital.
Other parents say they've had a different experience.
"He plays in this water and there's a water current in he back. I bring him at least four times a week. He's not gotten sick at all," said one parent.
The bacteria is most likely to affect young children, and symptoms include vomiting, fever and dehydration.
