GREEN BAY, Wis. — With the NFL Draft in Green Bay just two days away, a group of Green Bay area leaders gathered to highlight how the event is all coming together.
Senior Director for NFL Events, Nicki Ewell, said they are expecting tens of thousands of people to come to this year’s NFL Draft.
“We want to make sure that we make the state of Wisconsin proud of what we are going to produce over the three days,” said Ewell. “That’s very much in collaboration with Discover Green Bay, PMI Entertainment Group, and the Packers. They are influencing everything that we do.”
Local organizations are banking on visitors to delve into more than just the draft.
There’s going to be a “Booyah Battle” to share Northeast Wisconsin’s love for the chicken-based soup. Along with a “Kringle Combine” featuring samples of Wisconsin’s famous pastry. Plus, the “Living Packers Heritage Trail” with actors playing green and gold greats like Vince Lombardi and Curly Lambeau.
Jeff Mirkes of Downtown Green Bay said the details for these events can be found here.
“We want people to go back and forth, and easily find some fun,” said Mirkes. “Speaking of fun, there is a lot of history. There’s over 100 years of history in our community in support of the Green Bay Packers, and what I have witnessed over the past year is incredible in how some of that history is going to come to life, literally.”
They’re encouraging everyone to download the NFL OnePass app for info on all the happenings and the best routes to get around town.
The goal also goes beyond impressing those experiencing the draft in person. The event is a chance to market the region to potential future visitors watching from home.
“What makes 50 million plus tune in is that they want to see what happens on site,” said Ewell. “It’s the responsibility of everybody in Wisconsin to safely come down to the site. Wear your Packers jersey, get into that sea of green, and get ready for the show.”
Local law enforcement and transportation officials also share that they are ready for anything and have everything in place to make sure it will be a safe and successful event.
