Multiple pro-Palestinian protesters occupied a building at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan on Tuesday.

It is unclear how many protesters were inside the building, but they were participating in what they called a “de-occupation” of the building, which is located on Fifth Avenue between East 34th and 35th streets.

Video obtained by NY1 shows the posting of a banner renaming the center after a university in Palestine that was bombed. The protesters at CUNY also aimed to highlight universities in Gaza that have been destroyed.

Campus security are currently on the scene to block more protesters from going inside the center.

Protesters said they would not leave until president Joshua Brumberg publicly backs amnesty for all pro-Palestinian protesters.

A few weeks ago, more than 170 people were arrested at a City College of New York protest, though not all of them were students.

Protesters are asking for the school’s president to support amnesty for any pro-Palestinian protesters arrested at any CUNY protest - a request that sounds similar to what happened at The New School, where school administrators asked the Manhattan district attorney to not criminally charge those who were at an encampment on campus.

The protesters at CUNY also called for the university to divest investments from Israel.
