The NYPD is hoping incidents of gun violence in the Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights sections of Brooklyn will go down significantly, after 19 alleged gang members are indicted in connection with two murders and at least nine shootings.

“We’re not going to rest. We’re not going to stop until all the individuals responsible for the gun violence and the gang violence are brought to justice!” said Rodney Harrison, the NYPD’s Chief of Detectives.

After announcing the arrest of the 19 men, allegedly members of the 900 Gang, Harrison said he believes these arrests will make a difference in reducing gun violence after the number of shootings in the city nearly doubled last year.

“It’s cases like this,” Harrison said, “the precision, the strategy of going after the most problematic individuals are going to help us try to keep the city safe!”

“This spinning as they call it in gang lingo, shooting for the sake of showing dominance of one gang over another gang is endangering the lives of New Yorkers,” said Eric Gonzalez, the Brooklyn District Attorney. “We see children are being shot, we saw an innocent storekeeper almost lose their life. No one deserves this and we have to do everything we can to stop this.”

Gonzalez says five of the defendants could face a life sentence, in connection with the killing, while the others could face up to 25 years behind bars.
