The West Indian Day Parade and J’Ouvert will be celebrated in Brooklyn on Monday, the second year the festivities are back in-person following the pandemic.

J’Ouvert, French for “day break,” kicks off at 6 a.m. at Grand Army Plaza, marking the start of the Caribbean carnival.

The West Indian Day Parade, featuring vibrant costumes, festive music and food, will begin right after J’Ouvert ends at 11 a.m.

The NYPD say they will be patrolling the event.

“There are 13 entrance points into the J’Ouvert parade, and everybody who does participate and attends is subject to search,” NYPD Chief Charlie Mcavoy, commanding officer of patrol borough Brooklyn south, said Thursday.
