BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island will take place in person this year.

Organizers are hoping it will take place in late summer or early fall.

This year's event is not expected to draw that many, but organizers are hopeful the COVID-19 vaccine will still allow a large crowd to gather along Surf Avenue.

The Mermaid Parade has been held every year since 1983 but went virtual last year because of the pandemic.
