NEW YORK - Fire officials say a deadly fire in Brooklyn earlier this week was set intentionally and the man who died had also been stabbed.

Flames tore through the home located at 409 East 96th Street in East Flatbush on Tuesday.

Firefighters found 64-year-old Hugh Kirkland unconscious in the basement.

Police say his autopsy made clear that his death was a homicide.

"Some injuries were discovered during the autoposy, indicating numerous stab wounds, so that's an active homicide investigation right now. And any leads on that? There are many leads that we're following on that," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea.

Investigators say no one is currently being questioned, and there have been no arrests.
