BROOKLYN, N.Y. - One person was killed and another hurt when fire tore through a Brooklyn home Tuesday.

It started around 2 p.m. inside a home located at 409 East 96th Street near Willmohr Street in East Flatbush.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly, but found the landlord's son, a 64-year-old man, unconscious in the basement.

He died from his injuries.

It happened so quickly some neighbors didn't even realize there was a fire.

"I didn't smell no smoke, sitting there watching TV, unitl my neighborhood starting banging on the windows talking about "fire, fire" and I'm like 'fire?' So when I jump out the window, my boyfriend come after me -- well not my boyfriend, my friend -- comes after me and that's when the smoke started coming out the basement. I mean it was coming out."

Another person was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
