BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A Brooklyn man was arraigned this week on attempted murder charges, linked to a subway stabbing investigators say was a hate crime.

Prosecutors say last November, Aleksejs Saveljevs approached a black woman inside the Church Avenue station in Flatbush and attacked her while making derogatory, anti-black statements.

Investigators say the victim later realized she had also been stabbed in the back.

She was treated at the hospital for a collapsed lung.

Saveljevs was arrested Monday and is being held on $250,000 bail.

He is due back in court next month.
