BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A city man is facing multiple charges after police say he entered an 88-year-old woman's home, attacked her and left her bound in the basement of her East New York home Wednesday.

Investigators say Selwyn Worrel, 24, is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

He is charged with rape, sexually motivated assault and burglary.

Police say Worrel entered the home just before 2 p.m. and grabbed the victim by the throat, dragging her to the basement.

He then used an electrical cord to tie her hands behind her back.

"Insane and I'm surprised that that's even going on in this neighborhood. It's disgusting, that shouldn't be going on," said one neighbor who spoke with NY1 at the scene.

Police believe the two knew each other.

The woman was able to call for help when her emergency alert device went off during the struggle.

Police say the victim was taken to a local hospital.
