NEW YORK - The MTV Video Music Awards are tonight, and its performances will be taking stage in venues across in the city.
The show was supposed to be at the Barclays Center but those plans were scrapped earlier this month because of the pandemic. Instead, it will broadcasted from outdoor locations across the five boroughs with limited or no audience in attendance.
Performers include Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, The Weekend and more.
According to MTV, extensive social distancing procedures, capacity limitations and other precautions are being implemented.
However, there was backlash because participating celebrities aren't required to follow the same rules as others visiting the city.
Performers and other out-of-state travelers aren't adhering to the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine, MTV obtained special exceptions for them.
The VMA's start tonight at 8 p.m.
