A city police officer shot a teenage carjacker after she pinned the officer against a car in the Bronx on Monday morning, the NYPD said.
It happened around 11 a.m. near the intersection of 162nd Street and Sheridan Avenue in Fleetwood-Concourse Village, not far from the Bronx Criminal Courthouse.
Police said officers were watching a vehicle believed to be connected to a carjacking case in the 41st Precinct the previous day when they saw three perpetrators enter the vehicle.
An officer then approached the car from the driver's side when one of the carjackers drove it in reverse, officials said, pinning the officer against a parked car.
The car came to a stop after the officer shot at the car and hit the driver. The three perpetrators were taken into custody.
Police said Monday afternoon that the driver was listed in critical but stable condition at Lincoln Hospital with gunshot wounds to her chest and the left side of her torso.
Police said the officer was being treated for injuries to her hip area, legs, and pelvis at a local hospital.
Police said the perpetrators — a 17-year-old male and two 17-year-old females — had been involved in a robbery and carjacking spree across the city.
