Getting back to work and school after a holiday break is never easy and the weather won't help.

What You Need To Know

  • 1-2" of snow is expected

  • It will be a snowy and slippery morning commute

  • Our 700+ day  snowless streak could come to an end

  • Bitter cold and another snow chance are in store after Tuesday's storm

A winter storm is moving in and it will be an icy return to work and school. Get set for a messy morning rush.

Tough travel

The Tuesday morning commute will feature snow-covered streets and sidewalks and steady snow falling. The snow is expected to only accumulate 1 to 2 inches but it will be enough to get out the city salters.

You’ll want some snow boots or some kind of footwear with good traction, and that doesn’t mind stepping in a puddle of slush. The snow will end by mid-afternoon. Some slippery spots could linger for the evening rush.

City officials said alternate side parking regulations will be suspended Tuesday.

If we get an inch or more on Tuesday, it will break a more than 700 day stretch of days without a snowfall of 1" or more that has been going since Feb. 13, 2022.

It’s the longest snowless streak since the late 1800s when New York City records began.

Bitter Cold and Another Snow Chance

Behind the storm will be frigid conditions. Temperatures will be the coldest in the season. Look for high temperatures only near the freezing mark and lows in the 20s.

Also on Friday, weather models are showing another snow chance, but so far the trend is for the storm to miss the city. We’ll be observing the situation this week.
