November in New York City is a busy month. We have the NYC marathon and the Thanksgiving parade. These are two big outdoor events and November is a month that can bring stormy weather.

This year we were fortunate, as we had fair weather for both iconic events. Outside of these two days, we saw some weather extremes. Let’s look back.

Temperature summary

We saw more cool days than warm days, with readings averaging just over one degree below average. The warmest day was the 17th, which had a high of 67 degrees. Our coldest day came about a week later when readings fell into the 20s for the first time this season.

Temperatures for November 2023 did not rank in the top 10 coldest of warmest for NYC, where weather records go back to 1865.

Rainfall summary

Overall, November was quite dry. We barely saw any rain through the first 20 days of the month. Most of our precipitation came on the 22nd and 23rd when a storm brought over 2 inches of rain to the city.

Overall, we only had rain on four out of the 30 days. There was no snow in NYC this year. The last time we saw snow in November was 2018. Despite the dry weather, reservoirs remain healthy because of the record 18-plus inches of rain we received in September. Levels are nearly 10% above average.
