New York City still hasn’t officially had measurable snow as of Jan. 30, breaking the record for the latest first snowfall set in 1973.
That’s not the only snowfall record to watch, though.
The previous date for the latest measurable snowfall in NYC – at least a tenth of an inch – was Jan. 29, 1973. That winter was the least snowy on record in the city with just 2.8”.
With no snow in the forecast anytime soon, this record will keep extending.
Another record will probably fall by the wayside, too. Monday was the 327th day in a row without measurable snow. The record is 332 days, running from Jan. 19, 2020 to Dec. 15, 2020.
NYC’s last snow was on March 9, 2022, when offical observations totalled only 0.4”.
The city will hit the 333-day mark, and the new record for most days without snow, on Sunday, Feb. 5. The current forecast calls for dry weather between now and then.
If you’d rather think snowy thoughts, recall that it was just one year ago that we were digging out from a snowstorm. Well over a foot of snow, along with strong winds, slammed much of Long Island.
