A dangerous, extended heat wave begins Saturday in New York City with daytime temperatures in the low 90s.
On Sunday, a heat advisory goes into effect at noon, and will last through 8 p.m. on Monday. While highs will be in the low to mid-90s, heat indices, or feels like temperatures, will be near or above 100 degrees.
Beaches could be packed over the weekend as a result.
Heat of this magnitude can be deadly. Take extra precautions if spending a prolonged period of time outdoors. Check in on the elderly and those with special needs. Recognize the signs of heat-related illness and seek relief indoors immediately if you begin to feel faint or fatigued.
Remember, never leave a pet or child in a vehicle unattended, even for a few minutes.
There won't be much relief to the heat through midweek, although the city could see a few storms on Monday and again at the end of the week.
